Assistant Dining Room Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Dining Room Manager assists the Dining Room Manager with operational aspects of food service for dining venue, by mentoring and developing a dynamic service team to meet Willamette View's strategic objective "Inspiring the art of living well" for residents and staff, while operating in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, HACCP, sanitation and food handling protocols and other guidelines and regulations as they apply to areas of responsibility. The Assistant Dining Room Manager monitors and upholds service quality standards and maintains service operations.

 Responsibilities:

Commitment to Quality - It is the responsibility of the Assistant Dining Room Manager to assist in the development and implementation of a customer service model for progressively aging seniors and ensuring quality standards are executed.  Assists the Dining Room Manager to ensure changes are made as needed to align with the company mission and vision for the department's food service venue.  These responsibilities include:

  1. Participates in the development and implementation of service quality standards for the dining venue.
  2. Analyzes aspects of service operations to determine improvements and takes positive actions to drive changes necessary to stay abreast of market and industry trends that will result in enhanced product quality, satisfy residents and empowered staff.
  3. Maintains the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintains the appearances of Food and Beverage Department ensuring clean, safe and sanitary conditions.
  4. Inspects dining areas and monitors Food and Beverage staff and operations.

Fiscal Management - The Assistant Dining Room Manager responsibilities include:

  1. Provides Dining Room Manager with information and input needed for the annual forecasting and development of departmental budget.
  2. Assists in operating the dining room within budget guidelines and is accountable for any variances within scope of responsibility.

Staff Management and Supervision - The Assistant Dining Room Manager assists in managing and supervising assigned staff, planning, and operates within the agreed upon parameters set by Willamette View Leadership and to report actions as needed to the Dining Room Manager, Director of Food and Beverage or Human Resource Director. These responsibilities include:

  1. In collaboration with Human Resources and the Dining Room Manager, may participate in recruitment, hiring, supervision, evaluation and compensation for assigned Food and Beverage Staff.
  2. Assist in the development and administration of work schedules, position orientation for new staff, in-service training and overall direction for assigned Food and Beverage Staff.
  3. May assist with creating or maintaining records, reports and paper work, policies and procedures, and appropriate regulatory and accreditation projects for the Food and Beverage department. 
  4. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent information to assure residents and employee rights of confidentiality are protected.
  5. Train, teach and provide subject matter expertise with service techniques.
  6. Reports all accidents/incidents and hazardous conditions or equipment.

 Other Responsibilities:

  1. Attendance and proper personal appearance and hygiene according to established procedures.
  2. May serve as a representative for department on the safety committee or other ad hoc committees.
  3. Performance of other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Dining Room Manager or the Food and Beverage Director. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

Educational/Licensure Certification Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required. A 4 year college degree in Restaurant Management preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be sanitation certified under the State of Oregon Food Safety program. 

Work Experience: 

  • Must possess a minimum of one (1) years' experience in administration and management of all phases of dining service for a high volume dining operation. Prefer experience in fine dining.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills; requires patience, diplomacy and effective verbal and written communication. Must be able to demonstrate effective reading, writing, and speaking skills, possess strong mathematical and analytical skills and be able to follow written instructions.
  • Must be a detail oriented person and be able to perform duties with great accuracy each day; able to handle multiple interruptions and prioritize work. Must be able to work long hours and flexible shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to interface with people at all levels and with residents in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and supervise service staff and build a cohesive team that works harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must maintain the care of equipment, appearance of the dining areas, and minimize the waste of supplies.
  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

  • Computers and related office equipment
  • Kitchen equipment, appliances, utensils, and tools.
  • Cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Walks, stands, bends, stoops, reaches and lifts most of the day.
  • Must be able to tolerate a noisy, hot, humid environment with interruptions; as well as cold temperatures from refrigerators and freezers.
    • Exposure to detergents & chemicals used in cleaning.
    • Works beyond duty hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary.
    • Taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
